Role Summary
 
Responsible for setting the day-to-day learning objectives for the students to support the achievement of weekly learning targets, the Technical Training Tutor provides supervision, advice and support to classroom members in the resolution of issues of a technical and non-technical nature, as well as managing classroom members on a day-to-day basis. Via effective communication and supervision, the role is responsible for ensuring policies, practices and procedures are understood and followed.
The classroom comprises technically skilled, professional level students from early career (entry level). The role is fundamental to the delivery of technical excellence across the British School of Watchmaking and exercises latitude and independence in day-to-day resolution of classroom issues, with referral of more complex or serious matters supported by the General Manager.
The Technical Training Tutor is a key contributor, through the achievement of KPIs and proactive, positive management of day-to-day problems and resources, to the achievement of the school’s operational strategy.
 
Key Tasks and Responsibilities Planning & Strategy
 
Teaching students based on WOSTEP curriculum guidelines within your specialist subject area(s).
Providing individualised instruction to each student by promoting interactive learning
Planning, preparation and delivering lessons in a comprehensive manner and use visual/audio means
to facilitate learning.
Agrees daily and weekly learning goals with the General Manager and communicates to classroom/individuals as required.
Distributes and organises daily activities and educational content to students, including corrective re-
work.
Identifies day-to-day issues and recommends solutions to minimise impact on achievement of daily
goals.
Seeks ideas and suggestions from peers/classroom/individuals and forwards to the General Manager
for consideration.
 
Students
 
Manages classroom on a day-to-day basis to meet minimum weekly learning targets. Proactively advises General Manager of any changes to resource that may impact on ability to deliver the learning plan.
Distributes and organises work within classroom on a daily basis, to meet daily learning targets.
Provides support and advice to classroom on technical issues and problems and refers more complex
problems to the General Manager.
Supports the General Manager with the recruitment of new students in accordance with School’s policy
procedure, including participation in interviews and to deliver selection tests as requested.
Supports in the delivery of theschool’s induction as requested by the General Manager and contributes
feedback to probationary reviews.
Approves and administers absence, including requests for leave of absence, and alerts General Manager.
Proactively communicates to the General Manager student personal or work-related issues.
Promotes and encourages open and effective communication within the team.
Communicates updates to classroom members as directed by the General Manager.

The post holder will have the ability to absorb and impart factual information to others and work within standard operating procedures. Ideally, the person fulfilling the role will have specialist / technical skills and will work within an area of knowledge and expertise. Good communication, an enjoyment of challenging situations and a systematic and perfectionist approach to problems are integral to the function.

Essential
 
Experience of working within an after-sales service team, having demonstrated the ability to lead and take on responsibility, as required
Educated to Level 3/4 (A/4 Level, NVQ, HNC etc.) with a minimum of GCSE Maths and English
Horology based formal qualification (BHI or WOSTEP)
Excellent people skills with the ability to communicate all levels within the school and externally
Proficient and experienced in use of MS office platforms, databases and learning systems
Effective communication skills - verbal and written
Decision-making ability
Experience and understanding of a process-driven and continuous improvement environment, where
excellence and quality are paramount.
 
Desirable
 
Minimum 1 year’s experience in a similar role
Experience in the use of micromechanical equipment (lathe, CNC)
Experienced in refinishing, assembly and waterproofing of timepieces
Brand(s) service accreditation
Additional WOSTEP training course(s)
Experienced in leading a small team in a relevant or comparable role or industry. 
Supervisory Skills training
HND/Foundation degree or equivalent e.g.NVQ Level 5
Experience/knowledge of business improvement tools and techniques
